It shall be the duty of each member of LPI to observe all laws, rules and regulations now or hereafter in effect relating to confidentiality and privileged communication, acting with loyalty, integrity, competence and diplomacy in accordance with the highest standards of professional conduct.

ABOUT US

The goal of our association is the education of, and the exchange of information between, all members of the legal community, including legal secretaries, attorneys, legal assistants, receptionists, clerks, court reporters, legal administrators, court personnel, and banking trust department personnel.

While we’re glad you’ve come to visit our website, we would also like to invite you to come to our meetings held at 6:00 P.M. the second Tuesday of every month.

 

Due to COVID-19 we will not be holding any in person meetings until further notice.

Placer County Legal Secretaries Association (PCLSA) was founded in 1979 when a group of legal secretaries from Placer County met and discussed forming a local association affiliated with Legal Professionals, Incorporated (LPI).  Joan Moore and Rhoda Spencer from LSI met with this group and were very instrumental in helping PCLSA get organized.  The association was chartered in 1980. The first installation was held at a dinner house in Placer County called Pinnacle Pete’s with Rhoda and Joan installing twelve young ladies into the newly formed association.

 

Over the years the membership has fluctuated.  At one time the association had over 70 members.  Today we currently have 20 members which includes active, charter, honorary, and retired members.  Our membership is diverse and includes legal secretaries, law office administrators, law office support staff, employees from the Superior Court, District Attorney’s Office, Criminal and Family Support Divisions, paralegals, and attorneys. 

PCLSA was a charter member of Northern Valley Central Forum since its inception in 1984. The association sponsored an LSI Governor’s Conference in 1987 in Auburn, CA.  The association has accomplished 12 Annual Membership Luncheons to educate the legal community on what PCLSA and LSI can do for the legal support staff in Placer County.  In September 2002, PCLSA amended its bylaws and changed its name to Placer County Legal Professionals Association (PCLPA).  In November 2009, PCLPA hosted with Capital City Legal Professionals Association (CCLPA) an LSI Governor’s Conference in Rancho Cordova.  In 2010, PCLPA celebrated its first successful California Certified Legal Secretary (CCLS) study program. 

The purpose of PLACER COUNTY LEGAL PROFESSIONALS ASSOCIATION (PCLPA)  has always been to establish good fellowship and networking through our members, to further our knowledge of the law through guest speakers at our monthly meetings and through seminars/workshops sponsored by LPI and other county associations, and to create a high standard of ethics.

Reynolds Tilbury Woodward LLP is a growing law firm located in Auburn, California.  With all of its attorneys coming from large firms, including Downey Brand, Orrick, and Morrison Foerster, Reynolds Tilbury Woodward LLP presents a rare blend of sophisticated, high quality legal work with a fun, team-oriented culture.   The firm is looking for a legal secretary with litigation experience to join the team.  This position may be a great fit for an applicant looking to move to the foothills from Sacramento or someone located in Placer County who is looking to end that downtown commute.  We are busy and the work is sophisticated.  The firm and its attorneys are dedicated to creating a fun, family-friendly, and positive workplace. 

 

Essential Functions:

 

These are the essential functions of the position. Successful job applicants will be able to perform these essential functions with or without requested reasonable accommodations:

 

  • Contributing to the overall success of our clients, the firm, and our culture

  • Organizing and indexing case files electronically

  • Calendaring deadlines

  • Creating documents for pleadings, discovery requests, discovery responses, declarations, and correspondence

  • Overseeing the filing of various items throughout the California court system and in Federal Court

  • Assisting with preparation for depositions, mediation, arbitration and trial

  • Working with and communicating with clients

  • Responding to calls and inquiries

  • Interfacing with court personnel and government staff

 

Requirements:

 

  • Applicants should have minimum 5 years of experience working as a legal secretary in a litigation practice.

  • Applicants must have experience working with various technology platforms including Outlook, Office, Excel, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Worldox, and Change-Pro (or similar products).

  • Applications must have strong attention to detail, be team oriented, and must exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Applicants must have the ability to set priorities and to work under pressure.

  • Applicants must be committed to maintaining a law firm culture that is welcoming, friendly, and positive.

Requirements for Membership:

Active:  An active member shall be a person approved by the membership who is (1) licensed to practice law; (2) employed as legal support staff in the office of any attorney engaged in the practice of law; (3) employed by the courts; or (4) employed in any other institution or office directly engaged in work of a legal nature.

 

Student:  Any person currently enrolled in an institution and training to become a legal professional and not actively employed in a legal capacity.  Such person shall retain student status until training is completed and/or becoming actively employed in a legal capacity.  Upon completion of training and/or active employment in a legal field, a person may become a full active member with all rights and obligations of such membership.  Student members shall be allowed to retain such status for no more than one (1) year after becoming employed.
